People think they get stuck in conversations because they are not in the ‘mood’ to talk to people.

It can be true if you end up in awkward silence sometimes. But if it happens to you often, it is not a mood issue but a skill issue.

You freeze in conversations for two reasons:

  • You feel anxious and uncomfortable around people.

  • You are comfortable around people, but you don’t have conversation skills.

When you are anxious around people, you get caught up in overthinking about the other person.

As your mental resources are busy, you struggle to think and reply and end up in awkward situations.

How often do you freeze when you talk to people you know? You rarely do because you are comfortable and confident.

However, some people freeze even when comfortable due to poor conversation skills. Conversation skills include knowing:

  • How can you start conversations?

  • What do people like to talk about?

  • How do you come up with follow-up questions naturally?

  • How can you tell better stories?

  • How do you crack jokes, tease, roast, etc.?

  • And much more...

Now, you know better about why you freeze in conversations.

You either get anxious around people, You lack conversation skills, or You face both of the above two problems.
